The Award winning Folk Music band Bjäran mixes instruments like Saxophone, Percussion, Guitar and Violin. Playing with great precision they still bring a groove that gets your body moving. In their debut album they all ventured out into a cabin for two months. They went there looking to write music that could express their frustration. The sound they arrived at is nothing short of incredible and hits you at the core with it’s rawness.

Even though they play fully acoustic their music sure packs a punch.

Erdenstern is a project with professional composer writing soundtracks for Role-playing games. The music draws out the emotional impact otherwise often found in film soundtracks to enhance the experience of the games. Their music captures many different expressions.

Cult band from Sweden, debuted 2000. Za Frûmi is melodic mood music from a dark fantasy setting with two branches (series). One centered around orcs called “The Saga” and music combined. And the other branch called “Legends” which are instrumental.

This explosive bagpipe-playing duo takes their medieval sound and puts it in a fresh and intuitive arrangements. Having their roots in Cultus Ferox and Corvus Corax they soon began to break free and find their own unique voice. Borrowing many different musicians and exploring new sound worlds.

6. Simon Kölle – Drakar och Demoner: Giltes Bane

Simon is known for his dark and detailed sound. His musical career took off in collaboration with Simon Heath and their band Za Frûmi which brought international recognition. Later Simon found his way into film music where his narrative sound soon got sought after. Always trying new things and collaborating with different musicians Simons sound has been ever-changing.

The track included here draws much of its influences from Nordic folk music but still carries a dark and menacing tone.

Broadbent has composed music for some of the leading video game companies in the world including Activision, Warner Bros., Sony Online, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, and NetEase. His unique and authoritative musical style combines the power and depth of the orchestra with cutting-edge synthesizers and sound design elements, making him a very unique, adaptable and versatile composer.

Pawel Blaszczak (born 1971) is a soundtrack composer for videogames and movies. His first compositions were created on Commodore 64. Since 1997 he’s been composing videogame soundtracks professionally. His work includes music for Dead Island, Call of Juarez Trilogy, Chrome and Crime Cities. Together with Adam Skorupa, Pawel co-composed the widely acclaimed The Witcher OST with the IGN Award – Best Soundtrack 2007 – RPG Game among others.

Monitor Celestra was an international LARP and had it’s origin in the Battlestar Galactica universe, even using a toaster as percussion as an homage. The music has much similarities but also adds a unique twist.

Composer for film and TV he writes music with rich instrumentations. Drawing his inspiration from composer like Goldsmith, Newman and Zimmer it’s not surprising that he’s becoming one of Sweden’s more well established and hired film composers.

This project is the brainchild of the creator of the famous fantasy internet radio known as Radio Rivendell. After Gargrim the Liar could be heard on compilations we knew that this project could really be something special. Influenced by such old masters as Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer, Ilan Eshkeri, Javier Navarrete, Howard Shore, Yann Tiersen, Jeremy Soule, James Horner, Steve Jablonsky and more the music sounds like film score music that stands on its own.

This young master of music has degrees in several fields of classical composition, counterpoint, jazz arranging etc. and for his age he’s already created a buzz within the Swedish Film scene. Now a days, the 24 old Joel, compose music for different media. Joel often collaborates with Simon Kölle whom he met while working together on a pilot for a crime series.

Joel has a rich repertoire and with the song on this compilation he explore the realms of thriller and drama.

Abnocto gathered music gear and started to climb down deep under the center of Stockholm. The album is inspired by the legendary Simon Magus (also the name of the album Simon Magus).
The music is very dark, historical, atmospheric and gothic!

The brothers from Lost Kingdom also work on other projects films and games among them. Here they try new things, allowing more musical experiments. Blending different musical genres, such as orchestral classical, jazz and ambient, and making them interact in a musical context with a very personal musical mark.

The brothers Daniel and Mikael Tjernberg starts out a project where neoclassical orchestrations blend with elements from medieval as well as contemporary music, inspired by fantasy worlds and nature mysticism. It’s also hints of modernism like the masters Stravinsky, Francis Poulenc and Arthur Honegger. Lost Kingdom was formed some of years ago. The two brothers found out that they had material they didn’t thought would fit their rock band, so they started to record it in ‘Goatman Studios’.

This Belgium based band with (ties and origin in the world of black metal) members LacrimaS, Lady Clarisse and Lady Satine has released two albums on Waerloga Records. Encryption has played several live performances and also released a DVD with both live material and music videos. Jeroen van Hiel (Lacrimas) is now a days composing trailer music and creating lot’s of covers for all kinds of dark bands worldwide. Encryption was the first music act after Za Frûmi on Waerloga Records. The song on the compilation is from their second album Nosferamor that was released back in 2005.

Aardia is an atmospheric darkambient music project. The music brings influences from the medieval age, fantasy, horror films and classical orchestra music. Aardia’s major inspirations comes from HP Lovecraft, Tolkien, Valiant, Boris and musicians like Carl Orff, Ennio Morricone and Fabio Frizzi.

21. Arcana – Song of Mourning

“Once again a soul has left us,
left us with disappointment and questions.”

Often largely instrumental, the band describes its music as inspired by medieval music or the middle age’s more romantic aspects. Since 1996, Arcana have been one of the leading bands in its genre. Peter Bjärgö (then Pettersson) started creating the music of Arcana after years of playing different kinds of music. The early idea of the music was based on the romantic image around the middle ages, through Peter’s own personal view.

The music has changed from album to album and today you can hear sounds from all parts of the world since the instruments Peter use are global.

This is the solo Project of Simon AA Kölle.

Musterion is fresh Music which injects new life into the genre of Dark ambient and Art Music. Some call it Illbient and others call it avant garde. The music is created with lots of sounds, instruments, electronic soundscapes and improvisation. Profundly inspired by the works, of such as David Lynch and William S. Burroughs and with a background in the avant garde theater; Simon AA Kölle explore the occult, the surreal and dream worlds with Musterion.
